During the screening, the Ministry of Agriculture, together with other state bodies responsible for the respective fields, presented information on the degree of Moldova’s compliance with the European legislation, the level of preparation for EU accession in the fields of agriculture and rural development, food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary policy, fisheries and aquaculture. The country’s commitments to harmonize with European requirements in these sectors were also presented.
MAIA Deputy Secretary General Inna Butuchel stated that “we are making progress both in transposing EU legislation into national legislation and in strengthening institutional capacity to fulfill European requirements in the fields of agriculture, rural development, food safety, fisheries and aquaculture”.
She said that after returning to Chisinau, the Agriculture Ministry’s team will finalize the negotiating positions for each chapter, in the elaboration of which the relevant associations also took part, so that Moldova could move to the next stage – the negotiation stage – in the EU accession process.
The chapters coordinated by MAIA envisage the transposition of about 2000 European normative acts, most of which refer to Chapter 12 – “Food Safety, Veterinary and Phytosanitary Policy”. To date, the Ministry of Agriculture together with partner structures has managed to fully or partially transpose about 600 acts of European legislation regulating the spheres of the 3 chapters.
After the screening process is completed, the European Commission will present a screening report with conclusions and recommendations for each chapter. It will contain recommendations on the transposition of European legislation as well as the necessary steps for its application and compliance in the fields of agriculture, rural development, food safety, fisheries and aquaculture.
