While the average global level of distribution of this valuable resource among modern countries is a modest 14.3%, Naked-science writes with reference to a World Bank study based on data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
Note that the recently published FAO report The State of the World’s Land and Water Resources (SOWAL 2025) emphasizes the central idea that agricultural land expansion is no longer viable. Increasing the production potential of world agriculture to provide livelihoods for the growing world population is rational only through the expanded use of resource-saving technologies and drought-resistant crops.
