The Ministry of Defense announced the initiation of the development of a decision to this effect. The authors note that obtaining the new status will allow Moldova to participate more actively in the Center’s advisory and planning structures, as well as in training and education programs.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening the country’s role in regional security, deepening cooperation with other states and gradual integration into European structures.

The Republic of Moldova was admitted to RACVIAC in 2004. At first, it had the status of a full member. In 2010, under Prime Minister Vladimir Filat, the government changed the country’s status in the Center to that of an observer. By that time, debts on membership fees had accumulated – in the amount of just over 22 thousand euros; Moldova paid them off.

RACVIAC was established in 2000 as the Regional Center for Arms Control Verification and Facilitation, including for the purpose of enhancing cooperation in the countries of South-Eastern Europe. In December 2011, the Centre became a regional international organization and was named RACVIAC – Centre for Security Co-operation.

RACVIAC has 29 participating states divided into three categories: members, associate members and observers. Moldova, Canada, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, Ukraine and the United States are observers.

The organization is headquartered in Croatia.
