Moldova has the lowest CO2 emissions in Europe

Such data is cited by the sociological agency iData with reference to information from the PBL (Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency).

For comparison: in Romania this figure was 3.7 tons, in Ukraine – 3.17 tons, in Belarus it was 5.79 tons. The record holder in the region was Russia with 14.45 tons.

On average among the EU states the figure varies from 3.58 to 8.52 tons, in the most developed EU states this figure exceeds 7 tons.

The explanation for Moldova’s leadership in this rating is the simplest – the country has practically no industry. And in 2023, industrial production decreased by 3.6% compared to the previous year. In 2024, the process continued: industrial production in Moldova decreased by 1.1% compared to 2023, mainly due to the decline in the manufacturing industry.
