Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi questioned the need to repay a 100,000-euro debt to the CIS after President Maia Sandu signed decrees on April 9 that will complete the country’s withdrawal from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

According to Mihai Popşoi, debt repayment is usually desirable, but Moldova has not benefited from CIS membership for a long time.

“In general, debt repayment is a desirable step. However, given that we have not benefited from the CIS membership for a long time, the relevance and necessity of this debt may be a matter of discussion,” he said.

The debt to the CIS amounts to 100,000 euros, which is equivalent to more than 2 million Moldovan lei. However, under the current conditions, the repayment of this debt is necessary to finalize the procedure of Moldova’s withdrawal from the CIS.
