“Men between the ages of 18 and 22 will be able to cross the border without hindrance, despite the martial law imposed in the country. We are talking about all citizens of the relevant age. This decision also concerns citizens who for various reasons found themselves abroad,” Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko said on Tuesday, August 26.
According to her, the changes will come into force the day after their official publication. Until now, martial law, which has been in force in Ukraine since the beginning of the war with few exceptions, prohibited adult men under the age of 60 from leaving the country.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko explained the reasons for the new rules this way: “The purpose of this step is to provide young Ukrainians with more opportunities for education, internships, and legal employment abroad so that they can later use the experience gained for the development of Ukraine.
On the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the change in border crossing conditions for young men had been agreed with the military command.
