A microenterprise is now defined as a company with up to 9 employees and annual turnover or assets up to €2 million. Small enterprise – with 10 to 49 employees and turnover or assets up to €10 million. Medium-sized enterprise includes companies with 50 to 249 employees, annual turnover of up to €25 million and assets of up to €21.5 million.
As previously wrote Logos Press, previously the thresholds were much lower: micro enterprises included companies with turnover or assets up to 18 million lei, small – up to 50 million lei, medium – up to 100 million lei. Since the new capitalization and turnover norms are much higher than before, many medium-sized enterprises will become small and small enterprises will become microenterprises.
When calculating indicators in Moldovan lei, the average annual exchange rate for the reporting year is used.
These changes are implemented within the framework of harmonization of Moldovan legislation with the requirements of the European Union under Chapter 20 “Industrial and Entrepreneurial Policy”.
At the same time, the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization initiated the preparation of a new draft of amendments to Law No. 179/2016 on small and medium-sized enterprises, in order to further adjust them to the EU norms. Proposals for the draft will be accepted until January 20, 2026.
