On Thursday, October 23, consultations are held with the parties Democrația Acasă (DA), Our Party, Bloc Alternative, PCRM and PSRM, and on October 24 with the ruling party Action and Solidarity (PAS).
Alexandru Munteanu’s candidacy was agreed within the PAS party long before the official announcement. According to Munteanu, the proposal came from President Maia Sandu during a telephone conversation.
Earlier, PAS MP Radu Marian said that PAS has enough votes to appoint the prime minister, but “it is left to other factions to decide whether they will support him.”
Some leaders of parliamentary opposition factions have already expressed their attitude towards the PAS candidate.
Thus, PSRM leader Igor Dodon said that the faction will not vote for the Munteanu government.
The Chairman of the Party of Communists Vladimir Voronin said that the party has its own candidates. Earlier, the PCRM Central Committee decided to “wage a consistent and principled struggle against the anti-people policy of the ruling majority”.
DA Party Chairman Vasile Costiuc, commenting on Munteanu’s nomination as a candidate, said on the air of Cinema1 TV channel that “the decision is made personally by Maia Sandu based on the recommendations of partners” and that “they have brought a person who will run Moldova as a LLC”.
The representatives of the Alternative bloc did not make unequivocal statements on this matter, making it clear that it is worth waiting for the presentation of the candidate for the post of prime minister in due course.
Alexandru Munteanu worked at the National Bank of Moldova, the World Bank and held senior positions in investment companies in Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus. He founded 4i Capital Partners, which manages investments in the region. He is engaged in public activities, is a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor and founder of the French Alliance in Moldova.
Speaking at the constituent session of the XIIth Parliament, President Maia Sandu said that together with the future government “we will have to work with even greater intensity to stimulate the economy, create jobs and increase the income of families”.
