Lithuania will allocate 6 million euros of military aid to Moldova

Lithuania will provide Moldova with 6 million euros of military assistance in 2026-2028. This was announced by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda after a meeting with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who is in Lithuania on an official visit.

The President emphasized that Lithuania supports Moldova in countering hybrid attacks and advocates that Moldova and Ukraine become full members of the European Union no later than 2030.

He also said that in 2022-2025, Lithuania’s bilateral assistance to Moldova within development cooperation amounted to 7.56 million euros and continues to grow.

For her part, Moldovan President Maia Sandu noted Lithuania’s contribution to strengthening Moldova’s security – including the development of the armed forces, strengthening cyber security and countering information manipulation.

“In such a tense neighborhood as ours, such a partnership is extremely important,” Sandu noted.

The head of state also said that Lithuanian investors were among the first to see Moldova’s potential.

“The Invalda INVL company joined an international consortium to invest in our country’s largest bank – this is a practical manifestation of confidence in our reform course. Our ties are developing in other directions as well – starting from May, Chisinau and Vilnius will be connected by a direct flight. This is a practical step that symbolically reflects how close our countries have become. We want more Lithuanian companies to discover Moldova. Investment opportunities are real, the business environment is improving, and the EU accession process creates new conditions for growth,” the president said.

During her visit to Vilnius, Maya Sandu handed Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausede the “Order of the Republic”, the highest state award of Moldova. – the highest state award of the Republic of Moldova.

Maya Sandu’s visit coincided with the 36th anniversary of Lithuania’s independence. Moldova was the first country to recognize its independence.
