Kazakhstan resumes grain exports to Iran

Kazakh grain supplies resumed after a two-week break since the beginning of the war in the Middle East. This week Ak Bidai Terminal in Aktau started transshipment of grain to Iran.

This was reported by the state Prodkorporatsiya and the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan. Since the beginning of 2026 to the Iranian market has already shipped 31 thousand tons of Kazakh grain. In Prodkorporatsiya noted that they continue to monitor demand from Iranian partners and are ready to conclude new contracts if there is interest. Iran remains one of the traditional buyers of grain products of Kazakhstan – wheat, barley, corn. At the end of 2025, Kazakhstan delivered to this country about 1 million tons of wheat.

In total, from September 1, 2025 to March 18, 2026, Kazakhstan exported 8.9 million tons of grain harvested last year.

The main direction of supply remains Uzbekistan – to this country the volume of exports increased by 14% and reached 7.5 million tons. Supplies to Kyrgyzstan increased by 1.8 times to 354 thousand tons, to Afghanistan – by 24% to 1.3 million tons, to Turkmenistan – by 1.5 times to 145 thousand tons.

Earlier in the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan reported that in 2025, the country of Kazakhstan collected a record harvest of grain – 27.1 million tons. Export potential of the country in the current season is estimated at about 13 million tons. With these indicators, Kazakhstan entered the top ten largest operators of the world grain market.
