The following question is put to the vote: “Do you accept the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the draft of which was published in the mass media on February 12, 2026?”. Thus, the vote is held not on specific articles of the amendments, but for the Constitution of the country as a whole in the new edition.
Kazakhstan’s President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev said at a media briefing after his own vote that the country’s new Basic Law is largely dedicated to the younger generation.
“I have already said, this is the Constitution of Fair Kazakhstan – it is the Constitution of Law and Order. This is a Constitution aimed at the future,” Kazinform agency quoted the head of state as saying. – This Constitution should serve as a reference point, a guide, first of all, for young people. This is the main purpose of this Constitution. Kazakhstan should be a progressive and modern country. This is a very important goal that we have before us”.
Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor of Caucasus International University (Georgia) Vakhtang Maysaya highly appreciated the new version of the Constitution of Kazakhstan and argued the need for the proposed changes.
“In my opinion, the initiative to strengthen Kazakhstan’s constitutional sovereignty reflects the global trend of recent years, when states seek to strengthen the role of national legal mechanisms in conditions of growing geopolitical turbulence. From the point of view of international law, it is quite a logical step if it preserves the balance between national legislation and international obligations,” he said in an interview for Kazinform.
