Israel struck fuel depots on Saturday, March 7. The IDF claimed that they were “used by the Iranian regime” to supply, among other things, military agencies.

According to meduza.io, citing Axios, the US is concerned that Israeli strikes on infrastructure could rally Iranian society around the regime and lead to higher oil prices.

According to the publication, the Israeli side notified the US of the attack. However, the U.S. military was stunned by how massive the strikes were.

“The president doesn’t like this attack. He wants to conserve oil, not burn it. And it reminds people of the high price of gasoline,” said an adviser to Donald Trump.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (a close Trump ally) urged Israel to “be careful” in its choice of targets. He noted that Israel has demonstrated “impressive capabilities” when it comes to undermining the regime. But “the day will soon come when the Iranian people will decide their own fate,” so Israel should “be careful” because the oil economy will be essential for the people of Iran to be able to “start a new and better life after the fall of the regime.”

Axios also reported, citing sources, that White House special envoy Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner plan to travel to Israel on March 10 to meet with the country’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

UPDATE. 09.03.2026 13:14

According to Israeli media, this meeting has been cancelled.
