Iran plays an important role in supplying products to Tajikistan, and any change in these supplies could affect the country’s food security, local media reported.
In 2025, Tajikistan imported more than $2 million worth of dairy products alone. The main products include condensed milk (302 tons), cream, whey (263 tons), butter (123 tons) and cottage cheese. Fruits and vegetables also make up a significant part of imports. Last year, Tajikistan received more than 2,600 tons of oranges and about 1,000 tons of watermelons. Other popular products include apples (over 2,600 tons), kiwis (1,300 tons), as well as tomatoes and potatoes. Iran is also active in supplying nuts, including cashews (47 tons), walnuts, almonds, pistachios and other nuts. More than 180 tons of nuts from Iran were imported in 2025.
Iran is also an important supplier of sugar and spices. In 2025, Tajikistan received more than 3.3 thousand tons of white sugar, the same amount of confectionery, as well as spices and tea.
Trade turnover between Tajikistan and Iran has increased significantly over the past five years. In 2025, trade turnover reached a record of $484 million, a fourfold increase from 2021, when it was only $121 million.
