Ion Ceban, Chisinau mayor-general, said the order on the appointment of the two proposed deputy mayors will be signed today, during today’s meeting of municipal services.
“It is the prerogative of the mayor to make such decisions so that the work in the capital can be continued,” he said. – These spheres of activity should not be blocked: the work should continue, and the people are in front of those for whom I am responsible”.
The appointment of new deputies was undertaken after the resignation of vice mayors Angela Kutasevich and Olga Ursu, who became MPs in the fall. Since these positions were vacated, the appointment of new ones has been slowed down, among other things, due to the disagreement of councilors with the proposed candidates.
Last November, Ion Ceban proposed to appoint Councillor Victor Pruteanu and the head of the Municipality’s Finance Department, Olesia Pshenicki, as his deputies. However, the city council did not support this proposal.
According to the procedure, if two consecutive meetings remove a proposal from the agenda or if it fails to gain a majority of votes two times in a row, the mayor can appoint a deputy by an order.
