Ion Badanev made a “European-style” performance at the Moldovan championship

Moldovan weightlifter Ion Badanev set a European record in the jerk at the national championship held in Cahul, Logos Press reported.

Ion Badanev won three gold medals at the national championship in the 71 kg weight category. In the jerk, he won the 162 kg barbell, which allowed the weightlifter to set a new European record among athletes under 20 years of age.

Pleiad of champions

In the women’s competitions, Caterina Grabuca, Gabriela Danilov, Alina Popescu and Alexandrina Ciubotaru reached the top of the podium.

Apart from Badanev, in the men’s grid of the Moldovan championships, gold medals were also won by Iulian Betca, Daniel Lungu, Tudor Bratu, Tudor Cebanu and the most titled current Moldovan weightlifter, multiple bronze medalist of world championships, silver and bronze medalist of European championships Marin Robu.

The Moldovan championship was attended by 80 athletes from all over the country, who won 16 sets of medals.

Selection of the best

The winners in their weight categories will represent the country at the European Championship among adults, which will be held from April 19 to 26 in Batumi (Georgia). It will take over the baton from Chisinau, which will host the continental championship in 2025.
