In parliament, everyone wants the prime minister before he leaves

The opposition insists on inviting Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu to the parliament. They want to receive from him a report on the government's work, clarifications on the arms factory issue, and just to talk to him "before he leaves", Logos Press reported.

Vasile Costiuc, leader of the “Democrația Acasă” faction, demands to hear the head of the government as the chairman of the Strategic Investment Review Board: “This week, the investment of 3 billion lei in an arms factory has been much discussed in the public space. Since there have been many accusations, it is very important for us to hear Mr. Prime Minister and let him shed light on this issue”.

Igor Dodon, PSRM chairman, added that his faction will initiate an invitation to Muntean to discuss the results of the government’s work.

“I understand that the parliamentary majority may not support the initiative, so I want to take this opportunity to address the prime minister: three months ago, from this podium, you promised that there would be a permanent dialog. We suggest you come and talk about the government’s activity,” Dodon said.

Renato Usatii, leader of Our Party, suggested a specific deadline for the invitation: “We propose that Mr. Prime Minister be invited any day before May 22. Why before this date? Because after the Făleşti city holiday (May 22) – for those who are not aware – he is leaving. Thus, we will at least have an opportunity to say goodbye to him, if there is no other opportunity to discuss issues with him,” Usatii said.

PAS against the opposition’s assessment of the government

However, Doina Herman, PAS Deputy Speaker of Parliament, responded that “the Prime Minister has no reason to come and be politically evaluated by the Opposition” and that the Cabinet is dealing with people’s issues, even if some decisions are unpopular.

It may be recalled that many criticized the Prime Minister for not submitting a report on the first hundred days of the government. In response, the prime minister said that “the government works 365 days a year on initiatives, projects and decisions aimed at achieving three key goals – economic growth, accelerating EU integration and ensuring peace and security in the country”.
