According to a Hanwha Group press release, the new facility will be the company’s first production facility in Europe.

The plant will specialize in the production of K9 Thunder self-propelled artillery systems.

The company’s management views this facility as a basis for Hanwha Aerospace Romania to become a full-fledged domestic manufacturer.

In addition to assembling the equipment, the plan envisions close cooperation with local companies and transfer of advanced technologies to the Romanian side.

In the future, the company also plans to participate in the Infantry Fighting Vehicle Improvement (MLI) program funded through SAFE mechanisms.

The completion of the Petresti plant will allow Romania not only to meet its own artillery needs, but also to fulfill orders for other European countries.
