According to Stefan Golubchuk, chairman of the organization, the significant reduction in the scale of production of this raw material can be explained by several reasons. The main reason is a serious reduction in the supply of canned green peas in tin cans to the CIS market. Alternative markets (Romania, Baltic States, Israel, etc.) are not yet able to compensate for this loss.
In addition, there is a negative impact of climate change. The sowing/harvesting dates of vegetable peas are shifting, which complicates and increases the cost of production logistics (this crop is grown only on irrigated land, all the main agro-technological processes, including harvesting, are mechanized).
At the moment, in the marketing strategies of canning enterprises in Moldova, canned green peas have lost the role of the top assortment position and, in fact, are produced “as a supplement”.
