Greek energy companies are ready to invest in Moldova

State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Karolina Novak met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, Garis Theocharis, accompanied by a delegation consisting of representatives of leading energy and construction companies – PPC Renewables, Gastrade, AVAX and TERNA Energy.

According to the Energy Ministry, the discussion focused on investment opportunities in Moldova’s energy sector, which is undergoing an accelerated process of transformation, modernization and integration into the European market. The Moldovan side presented strategic priorities in areas such as the development of renewable energy, reinforcement of power transmission infrastructure, energy storage and diversification of supply sources.

Greek companies expressed interest in specific projects in Moldova, including the development of renewable energy production capacities, investments in energy storage systems (BESS), construction of power plants, modernization of power grids and participation in energy infrastructure projects. Interest was also noted in natural gas and LNG projects, as well as waste-to-energy and biogas initiatives.

In the context of the current regional situation, the sides also discussed Moldova’s potential as a logistics and energy center for Ukraine’s reconstruction, as well as the country’s role in the new energy corridors of South-Eastern Europe. The participating companies emphasized their experience in implementing large energy infrastructure projects and their interest in promoting sustainable and viable solutions in Moldova.

The most dynamic sector of the economy

Secretary of State Caroline Novak highlighted Moldova’s progress in the energy sector and its openness to investments:

“The energy sector is one of the most dynamic sectors in the Republic of Moldova. In recent years, we have managed to overcome a number of crises and accelerate reforms, including by diversifying the sources of supply and increasing the share of renewable energy from 3% to 29%. We have important projects underway, from the development of photovoltaic and wind power capacities to investments in storage and transportation infrastructure. We invite Greek companies to actively participate both in tenders for new capacities and on the free market, including in export-oriented projects. Today Moldova offers real investment opportunities in an increasingly predictable economy and integration into the European market”.

The government and business representatives also discussed the process of liberalization of the natural gas market, the goal of connecting the electricity market with the European market by 2028, as well as the need to develop stable production capacities (base load for balancing) to complement renewable energy sources.
