In connection with the situation, an emergency meeting was convened with the participation of representatives of relevant government agencies to assess the situation and coordinate further actions to prevent the spread of pollution.

According to the data presented during the meeting, rising water levels caused by precipitation and controlled releases from reservoirs may lead to downstream transfer of residual oil products previously accumulated in coastal zones and reed beds on the Ukrainian side. The Ukrainian authorities have already started activities at their site.

The authorities inform that the oil film has not crossed the established barriers and no pollution slicks have been detected in the Otach area at the moment. However, the situation is being carefully monitored.

The relevant Moldovan authorities will work in full mobilization mode during the next 24-72 hours.

Protection and filtration systems are already in place. Currently, 22 absorption filters are in operation. Additionally, the water intake stations have been reinforced with protection – four absorption filters have been installed at key points.

Water samples are taken twice a day, including downstream of the barriers, to assess the effectiveness of the measures taken and possible leaks. A new set of laboratory analyses will be carried out on Saturday morning in the settlements of Naslavca and Coseuti to confirm the dynamics of water quality indicators.

The competent services continue to monitor the situation in real time and take measures to minimize the consequences. The authorities stress that the situation is under control and all necessary resources are mobilized for a prompt response.

It is worth mentioning that on Wednesday, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu announced that the environmental alert regime in the Dniester river basin has been canceled.
