According to the Head of State, economic crises can occur at any time, from near or far, which is why the Republic of Moldova must become resilient not only democratically, but also economically.
“As we say in discussions with the business environment: we live in a very uncertain world and we need to become resilient not only democratically, but also economically, to know that crises can come overnight and can come from far or near. That is why competitiveness, cost optimization and especially reducing energy dependency are essential, because this is our major problem today”, Maia Sandu stressed.
According to the President, government measures will be adapted if the energy crisis continues.
“We have discussed all three scenarios, including the most pessimistic scenario, and, of course, the measures will be appropriate. I repeat, let us be aware that no government and no country, no matter how wealthy, can fully compensate, and it would be a great pity now, when our economy seems to have started more confidently ahead, to be hit by another crisis. This is the reality, it is not up to us”, the President added.
She also urged not to create inflationary expectations: “Let’s first see where this inflation is, let’s not create inflationary expectations.”
