Djordje Simion
He garnered 40.2% of the Romanian vote. By the end of the counting of ballots, the level of support for him had not changed much, standing at just over 40%. Immediately after the polls closed and the first data started coming in, the percentage of votes cast for him was noticeably above 50%, giving some observers the illusion that Simion could win the presidential race already in the first round. But then his numbers began to decline and gradually reached a low of 40%.
Perhaps, after 100% of the ballots are counted, the number of votes cast for him will be slightly less than 40%. But no one has any doubts that the far-right candidate, who replaced Calin Georgescu, who was not allowed to run in the Romanian presidential race, will be the winner of the first round.
The main question now is who will be his opponent in the second round. Initially, the candidate from the ruling coalition, Crin Antonescu, who was supported by the Moldovan authorities, was confidently holding the second place. But towards the end of the vote count, Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan, who is an independent candidate, gradually began to approach him.
As a result, after processing 92.31% of ballots, they have the same indicator – 20.6% of voters’ support. But the second place went to Nikushor Dan, for whom almost 1 thousand more people voted. Therefore, the main intrigue of the final vote count is who will be the opponent of George Simion in the second round of voting in the presidential elections in Romania.
