On February 12, the Executive Committee of Gagauzia approved a decision on the payment of financial aid for the cold season in January this year. In total, about 22,480 thousand families in the autonomy will receive such aid. It amounts to 400 lei per month per household.

The sum, although small, is provided in addition to the heat compensations paid by the state.

Financial aid for the cold season from the budget of Gagauzia has been paid for several years already. The payment period is five months, from November to March. It is not provided to the whole population, but to certain categories of population.

The right to financial assistance was granted to families with at least one pensioner or recipient of a survivor’s pension. In addition, compensations from the budget of the autonomy are given to families where one of the members is severely handicapped or disabled. As well as families with four or more children under 18 years of age.

Beneficiaries are also families in which one of the members is a participant of military actions in Afghanistan or liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. Veterans of the power structures of the Gagauz Republic (1990-1995) are also entitled to such compensations.

For January-March 2026, the autonomy’s budget allocates 27.34 million lei for these purposes.
