The relevant regulation, which sets out the conditions, calculation and terms for granting such allowances and vacations, has already been prepared. The document is scheduled for consideration at the next Cabinet of Ministers meeting.
Recall that in the summer, Parliament approved in final reading draft amendments to a number of legislative acts, including the Labor Code and Law No. 289/2004 on temporary disability benefits and other social security benefits. Previously, the legislation provided for the father’s entitlement to 15 calendar days of parental leave and allowance. It did not contain a clear definition for situations involving multiple children, whether born from the same pregnancy or adopted. The absence of these provisions created inequalities in the exercise of parental rights.
The law provides that, in the case of twins, fathers may take up to 15 calendar days of parental leave, divided into three parts. That is, the father of twins will be able to use a total of three weeks of leave for each child. The same provisions will apply in the case of adoption of several children.
Fathers will also be entitled to a separate paternity allowance for each child. The allowance is calculated on the basis of the average salary for the last three months before the birth of the child, including all jobs. Fathers with a total insurance record of at least three years, or at least nine months in the last two years before the birth of the child, are eligible for the benefit.
