These amendments complement the decision that, as of July 1, 2025, in Moldova, fathers who have twin, triple or more children born from the same pregnancy, as well as adopted children, receive paternity allowance for each child.
The costs of the additional paternity leave will be fully covered from the state social insurance budget.
According to the draft, the estimated expenses exceed 274 thousand lei for six months of the current year. For 2026, 608 thousand lei is planned, and for 2027 – almost 670 thousand lei.
Labor and Social Protection Minister Natalia Plugaru said that the measure is a continuation of the government’s earlier efforts to support families with children. “In recent years, we managed to double the number of fathers taking paternity leave. All these measures are aimed at maintaining the balance between professional and family life, as well as at the active participation of fathers in the upbringing and care of children,” the minister emphasized.
We remind that over the last years, the lump-sum allowance at the birth of a child increased up to 21350 lei, as well as a lump-sum monthly allowance of 1000 lei for child care until the child reaches the age of two. Dozens of new nursery groups were also created.
