If until last year the most popular programs were those in information technologies, this year the programs in information security are equal to IT. This was stated by Radu Melinic, secretary of the UTM admission committee, on Radio Moldova. This year, the ministry gave this university the largest number of budgetary places among universities – 1560 places.
Economics, law and psychology also continue to be in great demand. UTM received more than 800 applications for 20 budgetary places in economics programs, i.e. 40 candidates for one place. There is also a high competition in the field of arts: 120-130 people applied for 12 budgetary places, these are the directions of “interior design” and “game design”.
Energy, electrical engineering, transport engineering, automotive technology, biomedical engineering, automation, robotics – and these programs were already closed after the first round.
The data on admission to programs in pedagogical sciences are also optimistic.
Lucia Cepraga, Vice-Rector of the State Pedagogical University named after I. Creanga: “The Ministry has offered much more places to support the education system, which is in a certain crisis in terms of pedagogical staff. The most demanded program is special pedagogy, which shows that people are interested in the field of social inclusion. But pre-school pedagogy is also in demand – this is pleasing, it creates a feeling that the society is growing. The growth trend has continued for the second year in a row. Primary education is also in high demand. There is a great interest in psychology and social work”.
The scholarships for pedagogical programs reach 3.4 thousand lei and can be even higher.
Adriana Cazacu, state secretary of the Ministry of Education and Research, predicts a very good enrollment of students throughout the country.
“In total, more than 34 thousand application packages have been submitted – that’s about 28 thousand candidates. All the documents are yet to be verified. Last year, 21,167 students were enrolled in the first year. This year, I think there will be at least 3 thousand more.”
The final data will be known later – they will be released by the National Bureau of Statistics.
