European gas price skyrockets, world’s largest LNG supplier suspends operations

Exchange prices for gas in Europe on Monday afternoon sharply accelerated growth - up to 32%, exceeding $515 per thousand cubic meters. The main reason - the world's largest gas supplier, Qatar's state-owned energy company QatarEnergy announced that it would stop producing liquefied natural gas (LNG) at all of its facilities due to drone attacks on its facilities.

“Due to military attacks on QatarEnergy’s production facilities in the industrial city of Ras Laffan and the industrial city of Mesaieed in the state of Qatar, the company has ceased production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and related products,” the company said in a statement quoted by 1prime.ru.

The publication specifies that April (coming) futures on the index TTF (Europe’s largest hub, located in the Netherlands) opened trading at 10.00 Moscow time at the mark of 464.7 dollars (+19.1%). And as of 14.53 Moscow time their cost amounted to $515.2 (+32.1%). Dynamics of quotations is given from the estimated price of the previous trading day – $390.1 per thousand cubic meters.
