Under these conditions, there is a real risk of introducing temporary power cuts to maintain the balance of the electricity system, the press service of the Moldovan government said.

The appeal is addressed to all categories of consumers – citizens, local public administration authorities, economic agents – with a call to reduce electricity consumption, especially during peak hours (from 06:00 to 09:00 and from 17:00 to 23:00).

Basic services and critical infrastructure will be provided with electricity on a priority basis to guarantee the continuity of vital functions of the state and the protection of citizens. At the same time, electricity supply for non-essential needs directly depends on the level of responsibility and cooperation of each consumer.

  1. Citizens are urged to consume rationally (during the hours 06:00-09:00 and 17:00-23:00) and avoid using elevators during critical periods to avoid getting stuck during possible outages.
  2. Please limit the use of escalators during peak hours.
  3. Energy-intensive businesses (using electric furnaces, arc welding, etc.) are advised to relocate production processes outside peak intervals (07:00-11:00 and 17:00-23:00).
  4. Administrators of public and commercial buildings are required to reduce interior lighting by at least 30% and turn off window displays and advertising lighting.
  5. Citizens are advised to take minimum measures to prepare for possible temporary power outages, including securing alternative lighting sources, charging mobile devices and avoiding the use of electrical equipment and elevators in high-risk environments.

On March 24, Moldova declared a state of emergency in the energy sector for 60 days.
