On July 9, the U.S. president published in his Truth Social account letters about the duties that were sent to the leaders of Moldova, the Philippines, Algeria, Libya, Iraq and Brunei.
In the case of Algeria, Libya and Iraq, the amount of duties on their products will be 30%, for the Philippines – 20%, and for products from Moldova and Brunei the tariff is set at 25%.
In a letter addressed to Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Donald Trump writes that the US will continue to trade with Moldova. However, he asks: “Please understand that the imposition of these tariffs is necessary to eliminate the long and very persistent trade deficit caused by tariff and non-tariff policies and trade barriers.”
“Effective August 1, 2025, we will impose a duty of only 25 percent on all Moldovan goods imported into the United States, separate from all sectoral duties,” the letter says.
Trump also warned that if Moldova imposes duties on American goods, the US will raise its duties by the same rate.
At the same time, if Moldovan producers make goods in the United States, they will not be subject to duties.
“These tariffs can be changed up or down depending on our relations with your country. You will never be disappointed with the United States of America,” the US president concluded.
