Cyberfraudsters became more active before the New Year

Fraudsters use the seasonal rush and people’s inattention. In December, new schemes appeared. Attackers use seasonal “baits”: promises of discounts of up to 90%, fake promotions and non-existent gifts by mail. This is confirmed by police and news reports.

The Inspectorate General of Police (IGP) and other agencies regularly warn citizens of increased fraudulent activity during the holiday season and urge maximum caution.

In social networks and messengers there are announcements about generous New Year’s Eve promotions, gifts, prize drawings or investment schemes with high returns. One should be cautious about “harmless” greeting cards from unfamiliar organizations and people. By clicking on such links, people risk losing money or giving access to personal information.

Vigilance to phone calls with attempts to extort access to confidential information remains relevant. Fake messages are distributed (SMS, messengers, e-mail) on behalf of well-known companies or delivery services. The messages may contain links to fake websites to pay a non-existent fee or receive a package.
