The vehicles were seized as a result of 20 searches conducted in Chisinau and elsewhere, following other searches conducted as part of the criminal case in January. The criminal case being investigated by law enforcement agencies involves five suspects aged between 28 and 48.

Members of the group allegedly imported the vehicles into Moldova, apparently in compliance with the law. However, later, in violation of customs regulations, the cars were allegedly dismantled and offered for sale to evade taxes and duties.

That is, when importing a car, a vinette was paid for a certain period of time, then the car was dismantled for spare parts and sold for cash without paying taxes (through private classifieds sites, car services, markets, etc.).

Also during the searches, documents, phones, certificates and license plates were seized. Some of the seized cars were in working condition, while others were partially dismantled.

According to the materials of the criminal case, a group of persons, consisting of citizens of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, whose identities are currently being established, allegedly acted in collusion with decision-makers of an economic organization specializing in the dismantling of vehicles on the territory of Moldova. The members of the group allegedly distributed their roles, acting in concert, in order to obtain illegal profits.

The persons involved are wanted.
