The details of this important process for all parties were explained on Friday, March 20, 2026, during a hands-on webinar on “Everything You Need to Know About Real Estate Valuation and Revaluation.” During the event, experts explained the necessity and impact of the new measures.
The revaluation process initiated to bring the cadastral value in line with the current realities of the real estate market aroused great interest. The specialized platform has already registered more than 300,000 requests from both citizens of the country and persons living abroad.
Director General of the Agency of Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Ivan Danyi said that to date the agency has received about 4,000 complaints. Of these, 53% concern technical parameters of houses, such as area or construction materials, while 43% directly relate to the assessed value.
New cadastral valuations and real estate tax
The central topic of the discussion was the impact of the new assessments on real estate tax. It is worth noting that the new cadastral valuations will become the basis for tax calculation only from January 1, 2027. In this sense, the authorities assure that an increase in the value of real estate does not mean a proportional increase in the tax burden.
“Updating the cadastral value does not mean an automatic increase in taxes,” explained Anastasia Eremeeva Kopcha, head of the local taxes and fees department of the Ministry of Finance. – Decisions on the level of tax rates will be reviewed and made at the local level, respecting the principles of transparency and fairness. The law still provides benefits for vulnerable categories of the population, such as pensioners or people with disabilities, thus limiting the financial impact on them”.
Balance between community developmentand citizens’opportunities
From the perspective of local governments, the new assessments are an effective tool to ensure the equitable distribution of budgets and resources to be returned to the community.
Igor Cristal, legal expert of the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova (CALM), emphasized the need for local authorities to balance the needs of community development with the opportunities of the people.
These resources are vital for the modernization of local infrastructure, be it roads or water networks. Nevertheless, the decisions of local elected representatives should also take into account such an important factor as the solvency of citizens, the expert emphasized.
Citizens are advised to use the remaining time until April 30 to search by address or cadastral number and check the technical information about their property. If they find errors related to the technical condition of the property, type of construction or assigned value, the system will allow them to file a complaint online through the use of a special form, without the need for physical presence.
