CCI supports short supply chain bill, but with reservations

The initiative to introduce short supply chains, designed to reduce the number of intermediaries between producer and consumer, has received support from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI). However, the Chamber believes that the bill needs to be finalized and should be considered in conjunction with other measures to support domestic producers.

CCI supports short supply chain bill, but with reservations

CCI President Sergiu Harya said during consultations at the Parliamentary Commission on Economy, Budget and Finance that the organization, which represents about 25,000 companies, generally welcomes the initiative, even if, in his opinion, it came “at least five years late.”

“We believe the project should go in a single package with the Unfair Commercial Practices Act. These are interrelated laws designed to support domestic producers. It is necessary to implement the relevant EU directive through a separate law and synchronize it with your legislative initiative,” Harya told the author of the project, chairman of the profile commission Radu Marian.

In addition, he said, there is a need for clearer mechanisms for the functioning of public procurement for economic agents, as well as clarity on issues related to the implementation of a single logo.

Purpose of the reform

In general, the CCI president welcomes the draft law:

“Similar practices exist in many European countries. It is positive that we want to reduce the number of intermediaries, because each of them has a trade markup, which leads to the fact that the final price is sometimes higher than on the European Union market. It is enough to cross the Prut River and you can see that some goods are cheaper there than in Moldova”.

Recall, иinitiative Radu Marian’s initiative is aimed at reducing the number of intermediaries between producer and consumer, supporting local farmers and increasing the transparency of trade.

“Our goal is simple: the path from farm to plate should be as short as possible, the products should be as fresh as possible, and as much profit as possible should stay in the producer’s pocket, and not be lost on the way in the form of extra commissions,” the MP said.
