Budget planning "taken over" by the US
A delegation from the U.S. Treasury Department held two days of talks this week with the Treasury Department and the State Financial Control Inspectorate (SFCI) on the issue. This was reported by a departmental resource of the Ministry of Finance.
Earlier, LP reported that the USA will provide Moldova with an additional $36.5 million, part of which will be used to strengthen state institutions and transparency of governance processes. The program is aimed at supporting the tax authorities and the Finance Ministry in modernization and structural reforms.
The main goals of the program include strengthening the monitoring of public funds, implementing international standards of financial reporting and management, and improving the Moldovan authorities’ ability to cope with financial crises and external pressures.
In 2025, an important step in strengthening budgetary oversight activities was the approval by the Ministry of Finance of methodological norms for activities within the framework of the International Financial Advisory Council of the ICFS. In the context of ongoing Moldova-U.S. cooperation, this is a key platform for coordinating foreign assistance and reforms.
The main functions of this structure within the renewed partnership are assistance to the Ministry of Finance in implementing international standards of budgetary control and technical expertise. Through the ICFS, U.S. experts from the U.S. Treasury transfer experience in public debt management and tax administration.
