The initiative was promoted by the PSRM faction in the Bălţi Municipal Council. The decision was explained by the fact that the city is in a deep crisis due to the ineffective leadership of the mayor. The faction prepared a draft decision that envisioned the launch of a local referendum on his resignation. After approving this document, the Socialists planned to send it to the CEC, which was to set the date for the vote.

Why the quorum was not met

As Logos Press previously noted, the decision should have been made by at least two-thirds of municipal councilors. However, the quorum did not take place. The PAS faction refused to participate in “an attempt by the Socialists to divert the attention of the citizens from their own failures.” And a councilor from “Our Party” noted that the proposal interferes with the productive work of the council and called on colleagues to focus on solving the city’s problems. As a result, the initiative was rejected.

It should be noted that in January last year there was already an attempt to organize a similar referendum through a decision of the CEC, but the initiators were rejected. Then the CEC explained its decision by the fact that the allegations were declarative and not supported by documents.
