At the end of winter, demand for Moldovan walnut exceeded supply

Buyers – traders from Albania and Italy. Transaction price for “Chandler” and European (French) nut varieties – 2.8-3.5 euros/kg depending on quality and batch size.

According to Oleg Tirsine, chairman of the Association of Nut Growers of Moldova (ANRM), the revival on the local walnut market was predictable. In the sense that during the previous two or three seasons, a surge in sales was also observed in mid-February (after the stagnation that usually occurs after the Catholic Christmas).

The specifics of the current season is that the Moldovan market at the end of winter has seen a rather unexpected demand for large quantities of goods at a relatively high price (the last price for Moldovan variety nuts in shell at the end of 2025 fell just below 2 euros/kg). Of interest is the fact that the demand price increased rapidly in the second half of February – by about 0.5 EUR/kg per week.

The only problem is that the commodity resources of quality products from Moldovan nut farms were quickly exhausted. At the moment, the demand from exporters exceeds the supply.
