This was reported by Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, citing a publication by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

“This surpasses the previous record set by Apollo 13 in 1970 by about 4102 miles,” the agency quoted the authors of the post as saying.

The Orion spacecraft successfully entered the moon’s gravitational field on April 6. As part of the Artemis II mission, astronauts are to fly around the Earth’s satellite. Within a day, astronauts will approach the Moon at 7500 kilometers from its back side and will be able to see the Earth and the Moon at the same time, as well as a solar eclipse. The mission participants will try out new spacesuits capable of providing up to six days of breathing in autonomous mode.

“Artemis II” is the first expedition to the Moon since 1972. The Orion spacecraft was launched April 1. On board are American astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christine Cook, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

It is planned that the ship will fly around the satellite for 10 days and return to Earth.
