More than a third of the total exports of table grapes last month went to Romania. According to the Ministry, the average wholesale price of this product is about $0.87/kg (which is confirmed by the price monitoring of the EastFruit portal).
According to representatives of the Association of Producers and Exporters of Moldovan Grapes, the bulk of grapes sent to the Romanian market in April will go to wineries for processing. The association’s chairman, Gheorghiu Gaberi, considers this to be “an unsuccessful marketing scenario, if we take into account the relatively low selling price of the products and the significant costs for their storage and pre-sale sorting”.
By and large, the sale of table grapes from refrigerated warehouses in the second half of spring is a forced measure. Winegrowers tried to sell this product in February-March, but then the demand for it was low and prices had to be reduced. In April, export sales started, but also at a relatively low price.
Taking this into account, the expert believes that active fall sales of fresh table grapes seem to be a more reliable strategy.
