the cookies went to cattle feed

The agency reported the completion of monitoring and control activities, as a result of which it was able to prevent the sale of a significant amount of low-quality confectionery products.

ANSA inspectors identified several batches of substandard cookies, weighing more than 2.4 tons in total, in the production of which the raw material used – palm oil – did not meet food safety requirements. It contained elevated levels of 3-MCPD (3-monochloropropanediol and fatty acid esters) type contaminants.

As ANSA specified, the content of 3-MCPD contaminant is strictly regulated at the international level, as exceeding the permissible limits can have adverse health consequences in the long term.

The animals’ diet will be supplemented with an unusual product

In order to ensure the safety of Moldovan citizens, ANSA has ordered the following measures:

– batches of cookies were banned for human consumption and withdrawn from sale;

– by the decision of the owner of the batches of low-quality goods and under strict supervision of ANSA inspectors, the cookies were sent for “conditional use” – as animal feed, in accordance with the legislation in force.

The economic operator was penalized for the violations committed and received clear instructions to eliminate the identified deficiencies.
