An electric guitar went under the hammer for a record $14.55 million.

The lot was originally estimated at $2-4 million, increasing in value by more than 600% during the auction.

The record was broken after almost six years

The previous record value belonged to the acoustic guitar D-18E made by the company “Martin” (USA), in June 2020, sold at auction for $6 million. The instrument belonged to the late leader of the band “Nirvana” Kurt Cobain.

What is noteworthy is that the “Black Strat” electric guitar was already the most expensive in history. In 2019, it went under the hammer for $3.95 million and left the first line after the sale of Cobain’s guitar. Thus, its value has increased by more than 250% in seven years.

An iconic role in the history of Pink Floyd

The “Black Strat” electric guitar was produced by the company “Fender” (USA) in 1969. Pink Floyd guitarist and vocalist David Gilmour purchased it in 1970 and used it to record the legendary albums “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, “Wish You Were Here”, “Animals” and “The Wall”.

Pink Floyd, founded in 1965 in London, is one of the most influential and commercially successful bands in the history of world rock music, with more than 250 million albums sold worldwide. The Wall” album has gone “platinum” 23 times.
