Ambassadors to Kazakhstan and Ireland appointed

The embassy in Kazakhstan was opened by Moldova only this year. President Maia Sandu signed a decree to this effect on September 5, 2024.

Stefan Gorda will be the first ambassador to this key Central Asian state. He is a career diplomat with the rank of ambassador who has already headed Moldova’s diplomatic missions in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria. From 2020 to 2022, Stefan Gorda served as Director of the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Coordinator for Francophonie. Most recently, he served as Minister Counselor at the Moldovan Embassy in Ukraine.

Kazakhstan was one of the first countries to recognize Moldova’s independence in 1992, when diplomatic relations between the countries were established. But until now, Moldova maintained relations with Kazakhstan through its embassy in Moscow, while the Kazakh side entrusted the duties of maintaining ties with our country to its diplomatic mission in Ukraine. Only in 2014 Kazakhstan opened a consulate general in Moldova, in 2020. – embassy. Kazakhstan’s ambassador in Chisinau was appointed in 2022.

Moldova’s diplomatic mission in Ireland will be headed by Zhanna Kostaki. She is a new person in diplomacy, but has extensive experience in senior positions in different state structures. In recent years, she served as Secretary of State in the Ministry of the Interior.
