At the same time, temporary driver’s licenses of the same type will be put into circulation.
One of the innovations is the expansion of field 12 to include all restrictions, which is currently not always possible due to lack of space. A QR code will also be printed on the back of the new license, which will make it possible to check the authenticity of the information through the Government Data Verification Portal.
The 2025 ID card complies with the requirements of Directive 2006/126/EC, with the exception of the distinctive marks specific to EU Member States and the optional microchip.
The Public Services Agency has not yet set an exact date for issuing the new credential, as there are still stocks of forms valid now. However, the transition to the new template may take place before the deadline of March 31, 2026.
There are currently four types of driver’s licenses in force in Moldova: 1995, 2008, 2015 and 2019.
