At the 1st stage of the Biathlon World Cup in Kontiolahti, Finland, Alina Stremous, representing the Republic of Moldova, took 15th place in the sprint race and 18th place in the mass start. These results are the best performances since the 2022 Winter Olympics in the career of the 29-year-old athlete in competitions among the elite of the world biathlon. She did, however, win a gold medal in the pursuit at the 2022 European Championships. But the level of competitors in that tournament is much lower compared to the World Cup, which runs from November through March, and the World Championships, which will be hosted by Switzerland’s Lenzerheide in February 2025.
