The 60th International Music Festival “Merzishor” on March 1 will open in an unusual way: with a large-scale premiere of the multimedia musical “Maria Mirabela. The story goes on.” The production is dedicated to the memory of composer Evgeny Doga and poet Grigore Vieru. This is the first musical entirely created in Moldova, Logos Press reports.
World Read Aloud Day, celebrated on February 1 at the Pushkin House-Museum, “gave” to many people the forgotten Russian writer, historian Alexander Veltman, who became famous during his lifetime, a Kishinev acquaintance of Alexander Pushkin. In 1986, Veltman’s novel “The Wanderer” was published in Moldovan by the publishing house “Literatura Artistica”, and artist Mihail Brunea drew a series of witty illustrations for the novel.
In the graphic art exhibition “MONOCROM” at the Organ Hall Gallery, students of the A. Plamediale College of Art invite viewers to focus on meaning, form and composition, rather than on color diversity as usual. The exhibition shows that monochromy does not limit artists at all, but on the contrary, gives them the opportunity to use a rich palette of tones and shades, focusing on the technical methods of working with line and spot.
An unusual exposition “Architecture of Absolute” was unfolded on December 12 in Iusty Art Gallery. It immerses the viewer in deep existential compositions created by Valery Buyev. Surrealism and absurdity for the artist are ways of thinking that allow him to explore what was previously considered incomprehensible and create art that raises questions, surprises and remains in the memory.
Within the framework of the UNESCO inter-ministerial conference CoMoCoSEE “Sustainable Cultural Models for the Future” in Macedonia on December 12, Moldova took over the presidency for 2026 of the Council of Ministers of Culture of South-East Europe.
On December 15, the Palace of the Republic will host a chamber concert performed by the world famous violinist Alexandra Konunova and the Italian pianist Enrico Pace, one of the most exquisite interpreters of the European classical repertoire. He will perform for the first time in Chisinau. The program offers a unique sonic journey through the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Clara Schumann and Edvard Grieg.
On December 13 and 14, the State Russian Drama Theater named after A. P. Chekhov will host the absolute premiere of the play “Les belles-soeurs” by Michel Tremblay. The director of the performance Petru Vutkerau translated the play from French.
The Museum of the History of Chisinau together with “TeleFilm Chisinau” from December 2 to 5 present “Movie Nights on High” with free access for the audience.
The Organ Hall hosted an Eight Hands Piano Concert on December 4, a one-of-a-kind event. Two quartets participated: “Baynov Piano Ensemble” from Germany and Moldovan musicians Anatoly Lapicus, Iurie Mahovici, Inna Hatipova and Irina Guzenko.
On November 29 and 30, Teatrul Fără Nume will host the world premiere of the play Inostranka, based on the story by Sergei Dovlatov. Maria Mashkova is a Russian theater and film actress, daughter of the famous actor and director Vladimir Mashkova and actress Elena Shevchenko.
“Scandal in an apartment block” is the name of the Conceptual Exhibition of a group of artists from Moldova and Germany, which opened at the National Art Museum.
In November, the Chekhov State Russian Drama Theater will premiere the fairy tale for adults and children “How I. I. I. became a man”. Screenwriter Iakov Gribinenko and director Roman Malai have created a modern interpretation of Moldovan folklore with subtle references to local political reality.
From November 14 to 27, the Organ Hall presents the XIV International Music Festival “Johann Sebastian Bach”, a landmark cultural event in Chisinau that attracts a wide audience. The program includes four concerts with the participation of guests from France, Germany, Spain, Cuba, Romania.
There is a special field in fine arts – calligraphy, which combines aesthetics, precision and spirituality. In its works each letter becomes a part of the general idea. This was demonstrated by the exhibition “Duet” by Valeriu Hertz and Valentin Bologa in the National Library.
The international festival of theater and film schools ClassFest Acting Lab- 2025 will be held in Chisinau from November 10 to 15 for the 14th time. The objectives of the organizer – Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts (AMTAP) – are to promote contemporary art, exchange of experience between theatrical schools, as well as to encourage young actors who get the opportunity to present their best projects. This is the uniqueness of “ClassFest” for students and young people from Moldova.
A personal jubilee exhibition of the famous artist Eduard Maidenberg entitled “In the World of Book Graphics” was opened in the I. Manger Cultural Center.
National Theater “Satiricus I. L. Caragiale” celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. In October it hosted the VII International Theater Festival “FESTIS”, under the motto “The world today is comedy”. For two weeks “FESTIS” delighted the public with performances of 21 theaters from Hungary, Georgia, Romania, Turkey, Moldova, diverse in genres, styles and themes.
On September 22, Stanislav Poznakomkin, director of the Museum of Natural History named after L.S. Berg at Moldova State University, turned 90 years old. The university administration presented him to the medal “For Civil Merit”. This year Stanislav Danilovich published a book “Thoughts. Reflections. Diary entries”, the presentation of which took place on September 17 at the “Book of the Year-2025” in RCSC.
The National Strategy for Culture and Heritage for 2025-2035 was approved by the Government on September 24. It was developed by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe and with the support of the EU Delegation to Moldova.
On September 24, the Organ Hall hosted the opening of the first in Moldova collection of string instruments made by the master Cesare Cipriani in the tradition of the masters of the Cremona school of Amati, Stradivarius, Guarneri – reports Logos Press.
