The activities of the National Anti-Doping Agency (ANAD) are not much covered by the media. According to ANAD Director General Artyom Zhukov, this is logical, as an impressive share of information possessed by the Agency is confidential and does not provide for its public disclosure.

At the 144th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), held in the closed resort of Costa Navarino in Greece, 41-year-old Kirsty Coventry from Zimbabwe was elected the new president of the organization by secret ballot. She became the first woman in the history of the IOC to be elected to this position.
In the last issue of LP we told about the fact that at the European Youth Olympic Wrestling Championships (U-23) in Tirana (Albania) the only representative of the fair sex from Moldova at the tournament, 21-year-old Mihaela Samoil, won a silver medal in the weight category up to 55 kg, and freestyle wrestlers Ion Marcu and Eugen Mihalcean became bronze medalists in the weight categories up to 74 kg and up to 86 kg.
The Chisinau City Hall will allocate 6.67 million lei to modernize sports halls in the capital’s educational institutions in 2025. This was reported in the Municipal Department of Education, Youth and Sports.
The Education and Enlightenment Ministry will allocate 10 million lei for the restoration of the swimming pool of the State University of Physical Education and Sport.
At the European Youth Wrestling Championship (U-23), held in Tirana (Albania), Moldovan athletes won 3 medals – 1 silver and 2 bronze. The tournament ends today with Greco-Roman wrestling bouts in a number of weight categories. Our national team may get two more medals, including at least one silver one.
Moldova achieved a historic success at the Paralympic Games in Paris. For the first time, Moldova’s representatives won 2 medals: Ion Basoc became silver medalist of the Paralympic tournament in para-judo in the weight category over 90 kg, and the 2008 Paralympic champion Oleg Cretsul won bronze medal in the weight category up to 90 kg. Three more athletes – Gheorghe Spinu, Larisa Marinenkova and Inna Cernei – did not win medals, but they also represented our country with dignity. By the way, for Larisa Marinenkova the last Paralympics became the fifth in her sporting career, and Inna Cernei made her debut at the main Games of the 4th year.
