The Company has entered into contracts for the construction of four PMB plants with an annual capacity of 480,000 tons. The first plant is currently being installed and its testing is scheduled for the first half of April.
The launch of polymerized bitumen production has entered Grampet Logistics’ project portfolio due to the high demand for bitumen on the Romanian market. If initial estimates are confirmed, the company is considering expanding the project to increase supply volumes.
“We intend to help road and highway builders achieve their goals of improving the quality of work. This investment represents a concomitant development of our business and a strategic step in consolidating the group’s local and regional presence,” said Gruia Stoica, president of Grampet Group.
The new production plant is fully automated and is designed to melt bitumen into a solid form and bring it to the specifications required by asphalt producers.
The technology for producing polymer-modified bitumen was developed in Europe in the 1970s and is now widely used in Germany, France, Belgium and Italy. It avoids a number of disadvantages inherent in conventional bitumen: susceptibility to leaching, brittleness in winter and increased softening in summer with premature aging, and most importantly, low durability under heavy traffic loads.
The use of PMB significantly increases the service life of roads in regions with large temperature differences and increased load on roads.
Currently PMB is not produced in Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.
