New prime minister, former minister

At the beginning of this week, Alexandru Munteanu, candidate for prime minister, held a "round of consultations" with representatives of associations of producers of agro-food products. The dialog, according to the general opinion of the participants, was constructive. However, at that time, farmers and processors did not yet know about the choice of a candidate for the post of head of the MAIA Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

New prime minister, former minister

In principle, according to the leaders of many professional organizations in the agri-food sector, they did not hold out much hope. Nevertheless, to their mutual delight, the opposition Forța Fermierilor Association issued a declaration that the candidacy for the position of MAIA head should be discussed publicly with industry associations. And so – many (but not all) of them received an email from the Parliamentary Office inviting them to participate in a “round of consultations” to “present priorities and identify key areas of cooperation to consolidate democracy, transparency and governance”.

Meanwhile, keeping in mind that “human resources decide everything”, some heads of associations in behind-the-scenes conversations, and some in open text during the discussion with the prime ministerial candidate, asked Alexandru Munteanu to propose to the Parliament for the position of MAIA frontman a candidate “more competent than the two previous ministers”.

Otherwise, the dialog was held without “sharp corners”. Moreover, the candidate for prime minister pleased the representatives of the Moldovan agri-food sector with a story about the difficult evolution of the Georgian agri-food sector.

In the beginning, things did not go well for Georgian farmers, in the sense that the former leadership of the country paid little attention to them, and focused on the development of other sectors of the economy, in particular, IT. The Georgian agro-industry did not benefit from this. However, then the Georgian authorities came to their senses and began to promote (not to mention in vain – but to the Russian market –LP note ) the interests and products of the domestic agro-food market. And now Georgia is the leader of the region in terms of GDP growth (but an outsider to European integration –LP note ). According to the candidate for prime minister of Moldova, the authorities of our country should also “turn their face” to the local farmer and processor.

The operators of Moldovan agro-food sector already know what this pretty face looks like – Ludmila Catlabuga has been identified as a candidate for the post of MAIA Minister. As noted by “an expert in IT and Moldovan apples”, MP Radu Marian, the composition of the future cabinet is “the result of teamwork between PAS and the prime ministerial candidate”.
