The Ministry of Education and Research has developed a package of amendments to the Education Code. According to Minister Dan Perchun, the draft is undergoing the approval procedure in the government. It is planned to be put to a vote in February next year.
“We talked to parents, collected opinions, they told us about both success stories and existing difficulties. Even in cases where parents make significant efforts to ensure that their children know the language, the transition from a foreign educational system to the Moldovan one is not always easy. Most of the respondents spoke about the need for special language integration programs,” the minister said.
Besides, possibilities of adaptation to other social-humanitarian disciplines are being considered: “History in other countries is taught in a different format and with a different content. Therefore, the program we are planning to develop will probably not only concern the study of Romanian language, but will also be a comprehensive support program for individual subjects, where such difficulties arise most often”.
The minister emphasized that the authorities should do everything possible to make the return process as easy as possible and to make the children feel part of the new teams.
The concept of language integration has not yet been finalized and it is not yet known how exactly it will function. But it is planned that at least a pilot project in this direction will be launched as early as September 2026.
