He said that the railroad remains a strategically important sector for Moldova. Therefore, it is necessary to appoint a person who will be able to take over the management of this enterprise and who will be able to do it efficiently.
The proposal to appoint Serghei Cotelnic as the new general director of the Railway Company came from the railway workers’ union, which characterized him as a specialist capable of leading this strategic sector. “He is a hereditary railroader, his parents worked on the railroad, he knows this industry thoroughly. He came from the system, but with a new vision, character, opportunity and desire to work for the good of the people,” said Vladimir Bolya.
According to him, something needs to change in the WDM, people should be paid, and the government will support the new director so that he can handle everything. “We decided to provide him with diesel fuel from the state reserve for the next 4 months, because we understand that the task of ZDM is transportation of goods. Financial resources are very limited, and the government wants the company to work,” said Vladimir Bolya.
In turn, Sergei Kotelnik said that his first priority is to solve the problem with wage arrears of the company’s employees. “We have identified the directions in which we will go. I am convinced that these measures will allow us to pay off a significant part of wage arrears in the near future,” said Sergei Kotelnik.
He also said that technical measures will be taken to optimize production processes, the main goal of which will be to bring expenses in line with the income received by the railroad.
The position of ZDM general director was left vacant after the former head, Sergei Tomsha, resigned 2 weeks ago. Sergei Tomsha has been heading the company for more than a year as acting general director since February 2024, following the resignation of the former head Oleg Tofilat, who left the position at the end of January 2024.
