The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization has drafted a decree proposing to repeal Government Decree No. 88/2014, the document that regulates the use of this type of license plate.
According to the draft, after three months from the entry into force of the new decree, vehicles equipped with yellow license plates will no longer be allowed on the road.
The purpose of introducing yellow license plates from September 1, 2014 was to single out legal carriers and combat illegal services. However, as the ministry notes, the implementation of this rule has created additional difficulties and costs for operators.
Carriers will be able to pick up previously surrendered white license plates at the Public Services Agency (PSA), and if they do not comply with the new Moldovan standard SM 122:2024, the PSA will replace them with matching plates for a fee. Yellow plates cannot be returned, and those in stock, including blanks, will be destroyed.
Late collection of white license plates will be charged a storage fee in accordance with Government Resolution No. 966/2020 regarding the services provided by the ASU.
